Meaningful Connections. Real Conversations. Shared Experiences.

Connected Communities _ Kolkata in Autumn

As people grow older, social circles often become smaller. Retirement, relocation, changing family structures and life's transitions can gradually reduce opportunities for regular interaction. Yet the need for companionship, conversation and belonging remains as important as ever.

Connected Communities is a simple civil society initiative that encourages older adults and those who care about them to stay connected through conversation, friendship and shared experiences. The focus is not on organised programmes or formal memberships, but on creating opportunities for genuine human connection.

Currently active in Kolkata and Tricity (Panchkula, Chandigarh and Mohali), the initiative seeks to build welcoming local communities where people can meet, engage and support one another through regular interaction.

Loneliness is a growing social challenge.

Many older adults experience periods of loneliness, even when surrounded by family, neighbours or familiar environments. Social isolation can affect emotional wellbeing, confidence and quality of life.

Connected Communities seeks to create informal spaces where people can remain socially engaged, form meaningful relationships and participate in a supportive community of peers.

  • Family members, friends and community members who care about the wellbeing of older adults.

Community Principles - Kindness over credentials.

This community is not built around professional achievements, social status or personal backgrounds. We come from different experiences and walks of life, and that diversity enriches the conversations we share.

To maintain a welcoming environment, discussions relating to political opinions, religion, caste, community divisions and unrelated forwarded content are intentionally avoided. The focus remains on connection, companionship and wellbeing.

There are no complex rules, hierarchies or formal structures—only a shared commitment to treat one another with respect and kindness.
